Which is the best maternity hospital in Pittsburgh, PA?

Having had 5 babies in Pittsburgh I think I'm uniquely qualified! lol... The most prominent womens' hospital is McGee womens in Oakland... It's a teaching hospital, so it's the best if you have any complications... It all depends on where you live tho.. St Clair hospital has a great maternity department too! Good luck!!

I live in the Pittsburgh area and go to Magee Women's hospital. They also have on ob/gyn office located in the hospital. The hospital is in Oakland and is a UPMC hospital, but they do except other insurance. I use the midwives and love it. My friend delivered both of her sons there and had only good things to say about the hospital and staff. Good luck to you. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions about the area.

I would go to the Midwife Center in the Strip District -- I wish I had gone there with my first pregnancy because I feel very strongly that my c-section was the result of TOO MANY interventions at Magee.

With my second, I went to Magee and had Patrick Thornton for my midwife and it was a great experience!

I would not go to an ob/gyn unless I was having a complicated pregnancy.

You should go to the closest hospital to you that has critical care for you and your baby. I am from Sewickley so I delivered at Sewickley Valley. I would have however been transferred to UPMC or Magee if there were any complications. So simply the most important thing that you should look for in a hospital and an obgyn is what they can and will do for you if you or your baby end up in a critical situation. I live outside of Pittsburgh and also say Magee Womens Hospital.

As for the OB/GYN - I am going to a Dr. L. Swanson and I am happy with her and the practice overall.
