She should be on medicaid and WIC. WIC doesn't help with the medical stuff but you get coupons for milk, eggs, cheese, juice, cereal and peanut butter. Medicaid isn't hard to get. Tell her to check with the local health department, they can point her in the right direction.

There is usually one hospital in major cities that treats indigent women. I know your friend isn't indigent, but that hospital may have some sort of sliding scale to offer those women who are low to no income. There are also free clinics and you can look them up on the web. Also, planned parenthood is a great resource. She should call them. I'd also call Blue Cross/ Blue Shield. They have programs for lower income families...or she could look into WIC which may be able to provide her some other resources.

Definitely have her contact her local welfare office if there is no insurance in place with her husband's coverage. If for some reason you don't qualify (which I couldn't imagine you wouldn't if you have no income coming in), you can go to www.mybenefitsplus.com/trhonda2000. We offer discount health programs that will negotiate major discounts when it comes time to deliver the baby, as well as offer substantial discounts for prenatal care.

Hope this helps,

Trhonda

If her husband is a school teacher why isn't she insured? That is strange (scratching head). I thought teachers had great benefits. Hmmm.

I would say to go ahead and check in with WIC to see if you can get some direction.

Most states have a special medicaid for women who are pregnant and the income guidelines are pretty high. It's just for the pregnancy and delivery and if she gets sick while she is pregnant. She needs to contact her local welfare office.

if her husband is a teacher he should have great health insurance--why isnt she on the health insurance as a family plan if they are married??

Look into WIC.
