I don't think the people in these articles would agree on the quality of health care in Canada.

The knee-jerk reaction to all of these articles is usually, "I can find just as many articles about American health care". I'll try not to challenge you to do just that. I will, however point out that there are a TON of liberal pundits who support UHC. If there truly ARE so many articles or stories out there, why aren't they out there showing anyone that will look? Why aren't they parading around the thousands who have been failed by the US system?

I'm not sure what makes you think that Canada is "so far ahead of the U.S. in education and overall health".You don't seem to have any facts to base your claim upon other than your opinion that is evidently based on the belief of the left wing of the Democratic Party.
The education system is failing here, you are right. Why?It isn't because the government doesn't subsidize student loans(which would therefore be a grant and not a loan). It is more to the social system here.Parents being permissive with their children, allowing the various entities to do the parenting for them while they are busy with their own lives. It is the parent not being active in the education of the child.thinking that the teacher should do all the educating. And it is also, sad to say,the teachers having no real incentive to turn out a better product.Yes,the students are unfortunately the product of the teacher.
The health care system in Canada does have some benefit .But to make a wild claim that Canadians are somehow in better overall health is very misleading. For some services there is a waiting list of several months. The health care providers in Canada are also not at the risk of the same tort claims as their counterparts in the U.S.The malpractice insurance rates and claims in this country are nearly prohibitive to someone starting in the medical field. The fraud in our system is rampant.the Medicare and Medicaid system is filled with fraudulent claims and payments, but our government does little,if anything to stop or prevent fraud in the system.
The insurance premiums in Canada are paid for with a tax rate that make all but the most fervent of Democrats shudder. If you are willing to pay such a price,go and live in Canada for a period of time and decide for yourself just how the "innumerable other policies"are a benefit to you and your family. You may find it not to your liking and then again,it may be the nirvana you wish for.
Something our founding fathers wished for was the ability to control their own lives with less intervention from a federal government that they feared. Some in our country have forgotten those wishes and are willing to allow someone else to make their life decisions for them.It appears that you are one.

As noted already by other posters, not everyone agrees with that view. In fact, loads think that there is no need for health reform in the US and ignore the facts!

FACT - Insurance companies in the USA admit to pushing up prices, buying politicians and not paying out claims when they should [a]
FACT - PER PERSON the USA spends more on healthcare than any other nation on the planet [b]
FACT - Obama debated his plans before the election for healthcare [c]
FACT - the chance of a child under five of dying in the USA is greater than industrialised nations with universal health coverage [d]
FACT - Obama was elected to bring in change [e]
FACT - Obama wants to stop insurance companies screwing the American people [f]
FACT - The reforms Obama wants work in the Netherlands and in Switzerland [g]

If anyone can prove the facts above are wrong, e-mail me and let me know.

You know the left continually repeats the same things over and over again hoping if they do that people will eventually give in and just say go ahead and spout off we don't care any more...

canada is ahead of us in some things... but not even close to all.

We are first in the world in advanced technologies, we are first in the world in weapons development, we are first in the world in researching new medical technologies.

We are where all the health care technology that the other countries use to have better health care comes from, and if we go to universal health care all those new developments will STOP!! and no one will take our place.

Many 3rd world nations are ahead of us in health care. Being ahead of us in health care is like winning a race with a turtle. We are proud capitalists who invest 3 times more than most countries to get 1/3 of the quality.

Universal healthcare is not "socialist". The only other option is the Third-World format of healthcare, in which it is entirely privatised. Plus, you can get private doctors in Canada if you are wealthy enough.

There is no money in helping the sick. But there is in price gouging the
healthy i.e. unregulated insurance premiums. The GOP only cares about
money. America is about the rich getting richer.

23 MILLION population (you fit all its people in NYC and LA) and most of Canada is uninhabitable...the cost of living is through the roof==and your main roads are two lane full of potholes--or dirt--right..way ahead of USA.

Why do CN come here for Surgery?
Why do you favor NAFTA-cause you need the $ from the USA.

Why is it all the 9-11 terrorists came into the USA from Canada? Great border control too...
9. Stephanie is awesome!!
Seriously man, you would have to get them to acknowledge that Canada is ahead of the US in regards to overall health and education before they could explain it.

canadians also pays 41 % overt taxes of their gross incomes to finance all this. It used to be 34% . With hidden taxes the total tax burden is around or over 55-59%.
