OK, I don't know a lot about this Obamacare thing. Can someone (unbiased) explain why it is unpopular with conservatives and popular with Democrats. Does this ruling really trully mean the end of democracy like i keep hearing from cons?

Actually, the Republicans don't like it because it was a law passed by the Obama administration. They originally supported it.

1989--The concept of an insurance mandate is first promulgated by the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation. ("In our scheme, every person would be required to obtain basic coverage, through either an individual or a family insurance plan.")

1993--Republicans twice introduced health care bills that contained an individual health insurance mandate. Advocates for those bills included prominent Republicans who today oppose the mandate including Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Charles Grassley (R-IA), Robert Bennett (R-UT), and Christopher Bond (R-MO), and Newt Gingrich.

2007--Republicans and Democrats co-sponsor the Healthy Americans Act, which had an insurance mandate.

Conservatives, aka Republicans, hate it because (1) it is a threat to corporate profits. It will cost (they claim) billions of dollars in premiums. (2) It is another step down the "slippery slope" of socialism/communism. (3) It destroys the freedom of choice, in this case the choice to not buy insurance. (4) It expands medicaid coverage for the poor. (5) it adds to the national debt. Of course they ignore the fact that deficits were good while The Bushes were pesident.

Democrats, aka liberals, like it because it provides all americans with basic medical care. it does put us closer to true single payer insurance like Kenya,Lliberia, Nigeria, Canada, Britain, Germany, ...

It's been in effect in Mass for years now when ROMNEY signed the law to create it there. Last I heard, they are still a democracy.

The cons don't like it because the insurance companies pay them big money to not like it. So they spewed a bunch of lies about it that, sadly, a lot of people bought.

Interestingly, when asked about each part of the law, people are overwhelmingly in favor of it.
