1 year old baby boy has had fever from 102 to 105 for over 12 days. He is in Kaiser Hospital in Riverside, Ca

Your infant has what is known as "Fever of Unknown Origin" (FUO) This happens and requires an extensive work-up. At this age, it comes down to an infection, an autoimmune disease, or cancer. Cancer and Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis are unlikely at this age. So the work-up comes down to checking for increasingly rare infectious viruses or bacteria. I have provided some links below.

I am sure they are doing everything the can to determine the cause. There's so many possibilities it would be useless to attempt and answer from this forum. Keep the conversations going with the Dr's there. If you are able to seek a second opinion you should try. Kaiser insurance is restricted to their hospitals, however you can look into a childrens hospital which would specialize in pediatric care. Good Luck! Having a fever for that long, especially at that age is extreamly dangerous. The odds of him coming out of it with full mental copacity are going to be low.

I will give my hopes out for the baby, but unfortunatly there are things we can not control. Try to contact Children Hospitals around the Nation and BE SURE TO GIVE SYMPOMS and more info such as vitals and the patients history.

If you work on 30min typing a report on EVERYTHING you know on the subject, turn this in on many doctors journals located on the internet.

Kaiser in Riverside is not as big as Kaiser in LA..are you happy with his care? I think you need to tell Kaiser you want to get your baby to another specialist.

Try a holistic doctor. I have no other recommendations, but other opinions will do no harm and is not a reflection upon your current doctor. Doctors are human beings like us. They are not magicians. I wish the baby my heartfelt concern.
