University of Pittsburgh Department of Radiology is one of the world s leading radiology departments located Pittsburgh. The radiology department has four divisions that include a magnetic resonance research center, a positron emission tomography facility, a digital imaging division and a bioinformatics division. These academic units consist of multidisciplinary research teams that collaborate with internal and external medical, biological, engineering and physics researchers, as well as industrial partners. The PET research facility, which has been operational since 1992, has rapidly grown into a world-class resource with three tomographs supporting more than 60 active research protocols. Research activities are focused primarily on neuroscience studies, including cerebral blood flow and metabolism measurements, neuroreceptor systems and the assessment of the functional interactions of neurotransmitter systems.
