J.J. Walker Rides Again!
I don't normally read rants but this one was an exception.
You make so much sense that it is scary.
I have always based my jobs on the health care packages they offered. For 18 years I worked with a company that offered outstanding benefits but mediocre pay and quit frankly, The work atmosphere SUCKED. I hated waking up every morning to go to that place/ I kept the job because it offered GREAT health benefits. I could have walked away years ago for way better paying jobs but the health benefits kept me there. Today I am working on my 4th year at my new job...A job i love and a job that offers OUTSTANDING health benefits as well as outstanding pay. I get 2 raises per year for the first 5 years then it goes down to 1 per year. I get to sell back unused sick time around the holidays and 75 unused days when I retire that I get a check for $10,000 for. They offer a great pension plan as well as a yearly longevity bonus when I complete 10 years of service. I love what I do,I love the compensation I receive and I deserve everything I have been blessed with because I never once took the attitude that anyone else owes me what they have worked hard to get.
Anyone that thinks health care is owed to them needs to remove the burger king and McDonald's uniforms they wear to work and find something that offers them more. TY four your excellent points. I enjoyed reading the comments you received.

RE Why should I have to pay for your health insurance?
An answerer on another question said,
"Do you have insurance? What of those who cannot afford it (my sister comes to mind, and she has a husband and two sons under age 18 years who are also not covered)? Medical care is extremely expensive and necessary. I'd much rather my tax dollars go toward a means of making insurance affordable to everyone than to fund an immoral war.
Oh, and my sister and her husband have always worked very hard. Neither are fat, lazy bums who sit around all the time. Heck, my sister would love to have 10 minutes to herself, but can't take the time."

These people made a choice to have two children they cannot afford to insure. They had a responsibility to seek employment where they would have health insurance coverage for themselves and their two children. Or obtain insurance on their own. If they are healthy, it can be gotten at a rate comparable to what I pay through my work.
I work two jobs. Both of my jobs, even the part-time job, offer me health insurance, so jobs with health benefits are not so hard to find.
Why should I be made to pay for other people's poor choices? I have wants and needs, too, and it's MY money.

Personally, I think all children should have free health care. We should all contribute perhaps a minimum amount and voluntarily give more if we so choose to. Who didn't see "Johnny Q"? That movie made me cry and cry and cry. It was also a real eye-opener on how our medical insurance industry is run. No one should have to go through what that family went through for their child.
Everyone expects to have common place ailments like the flu, etc., but no one expects horrific things like that to happen...... which is why we call it "insurance". Children should be given a free pass. Adults can work for their own insurance.
Also, I've seen families where the children are afraid to say they are sick because mom or dad or both (depending on their own individual household) can't afford to take them in unless they are practically near death. Those are very sad situations and in my opinion, inexcusable in a country as successful, intelligent and blessed as the USA.

Do you live in an area that has earthquakes, or floods or hurricanes? If you do then why should I pay to provide you with assistance in the event of a natural disaster simply because you are too lazy to move and get a job some place safer? It is, after all, MY MONEY.
Not every employer offers medical coverage and some that do are cutting back or eliminating it all together. Most part time workers DON'T have the option of getting it through their employer. If you do then more power to you because that's the exception and not the rule. The people who do have coverage face double digit increases in their premiums every year.
I can't believe the pious attitude of people who claim that those without health insurance are "lazy". Their arrogance walks hand in hand with their ignorance on the issue. We're not talking about free cable TV for everyone. We're talking about HEALTH CARE. For anyone in a country as wealthy as ours to be without health coverage is a disgrace.

I don't know if you heard. Over 500,000 people lost their jobs in Nov. What bad choice did they make? No. You shouldn't have to pay for my health insurance. If you look forward to watching people getting sick and dieing all around you, it's certainly within your rights to help make it happen. "NeoNerd, there is help available to people in that situation. SS and Medicaid." Where do those come from? If you and everyone else decide that you don't want to pay for anyone elses health care those programs will cease to exist. Funny how the U.S. government can spend trillions in tax dollars to wage war for profit, directly enrich the rich, spy on it's own people and make sure we all have roads to drive on, but better not even think of giving a **** for the health of it's people. Btw, the global human reproduction and resource consumption rates will have to be sent into sharp, sustained decline before we can all be healthy.

Somehow we have made it our employers responsibility to provide opportunity for health coverage. They are dumping these benefits by cutting jobs to part time positions in droves. They have been dumping health care on Medicaid (YOU) already. There are many people out there that can MORE than afford to buy their insurance, but don't, who are also taking advantage of YOU, when finally get ill or have an accident and can't pay, but by then, it is really expensive. Any time a government agency picks up the tab, it is already YOU that is paying anyway. How many people do you know that work 2 part time jobs or more? They probably still can't afford health insurance.

I am totally against government anything.
BO voted against helping private insurance or private schools he wants government everything.
It is not easy to get private insurance were I live and it is hard to find were do you live?
Also you are fighting the wrong battle at the moment.
We need to fight for freedom and accountability
from our public servants and the rest will follow.
Christine M I bet you are young and people with your attitude is very scary for Americans.
