This is related to a question I asked about whether or not Bristol Motor Speedway was likely to enforce the smoking ban that TN passed, which now applies to the stands at Bristol. Several people responded that I shouldn't be concerned about inhaling smoke when I would be breathing in exhaust fumes for 3+...

It's actually pretty bad, especially if you go to several races a year and you have seats closer to the track.
You may want to buy a simple facemask (you can buy them at Wal-Mart or auto parts stores) or wear a bandanna around your face-any smoke that you can block from your lungs is better than none at all.
In comparison, the cigarettes are much worse simply because of the 4,000 carcinogens alone. The atmosphere will burn away most of the harm of the diesel fumes.

Diesel fumes from the team haulers are more dangerous. The speedways are open air arenas and should remain the last bastion of public smoking.

It would be about as dangerous as breathing the air in Bristol city centre, lots of cars buses and so forth there.
